  • What are pitting and pinholes? What is crawling? Other irregularities you mention?
Pitting and pinholes are small holes in the surface of the glaze. Some people think these make wares not food safe as small pieces of food and liquid can get in them and form bacteria. Crawling is when an area is not covered in glaze so that you can see the clay body itself. If you wash and dry things properly this should not be an issue, however Onion have made notes if these imperfections appear in any of the vessels and this is reflected in the price.
